Story Time With Captain Fishbones

Join Captain Fishbones for a storybook reading, activities and fun! For ages 3-9, must be accompanied by an adult. Program included in regular museum admission.

When:

Held on selected Wednesdays of every month from September through May. Held on every Wednesday during June, July and August. 11:00 a.m.

All tours and programs can be tailored to your group's grade level, age and SOL specifications. 

Wrecks and Rescues

Kindergarten thru Fifth Grade

Students are taken on an oral history tour of the museum where they will discover why there was a need for the U. S. Life-Saving Service Coast Guard with the aid of photographs, maps and charts.
 
They will learn about the daily jobs of the surfmen, methods of  rescue, and changes to the service and the community.

Also included: rescue sequence game, shipwreck stories, a storybook reading (K-2), videos, and TowerCAM.
 
All tours are tailored for the specific grade level.
 
Average tour time: 60-90 Minutes
 
Rates:

Students: $2.00 each(minimum 10 students)
 
1 chaperon per 10 children admitted at no charge
 
All other adults: $2.50 each

Students enjoy a storybook reading and activities with a costumed storyteller. Assorted themes available including Pirate Adventure.

School of the Surfman

Experience a day in the life of a surfman. Take a guided tour of the museum then learn some of the skills practiced by these brave heroes such as knot tying and semaphore.

Surfman’s bag containing souvenirs and materials for activities provided.

For children ages 7 – 15.

Time: approx. 2 hours

Fee: $10 per child

No charge for 2 chaperons

$2.50 per additional adult

Girl Scout Tours and Programs

Explore The Old Coast Guard Station Take a tour of The Old Coast Guard Station. Learn about shipwrecks, rescues, and the history of the U. S. Coast Guard.

Time: Approx. 1 hour

Capacity: 8 minimum; 25 maximum

Fee: $2.00 per Scout. Two adults admitted free; $2.50 per additional adult. Patch not included in tour price.

When: All year; please call at least 2 weeks in advance to book a tour.

Last tour starts at 4:00 PM

Day Programs:

Brownie Try-It "Listening to the Past" and Junior Badge "Local Lore". 

Programs also include the Explore The Old Coast Guard Station tour.

Time: Approx. 2.5 hours

Capacity: 8 minimum; 25 maximum

Docent and Volunteer Opportunities

Docent and Volunteers:

Do you want to serve the community and help preserve an important part of history? Now you can - the Old Coast Guard Station has 50-60 volunteers who contribute to the museum by acting as Tour Guides (docents) in the Galleries, Shop Assistants in the Museum Store, or as Special Events Assistants for receptions, special projects and fund-raisers.

Training is provided for all positions.
