Membership & Giving - Volunteer
The Old Coast Guard Station relies on the assistance, talent and
enthusiasm of volunteers to operate smoothly. Volunteers work
individually or in groups, performing a variety of duties
throughout the Museum.
Application
Museum Store Ambassador
Provide front-line customer service to museum visitors. Welcomes
visitors and promotes the museum and gift shop by sharing general
and mission-oriented information. More

Museum Gallery Guide
Interpret the permanent and temporary exhibits in the museum
gallery. Lead visitors on a 30-minute guided tour, which greatly
enhances visitors' learning and overall experience. More

Administrative Assistant
Assist museum staff with data entry, public relations, marketing,
website and social media management and/or grant writing.
Research/Collections
Assist museum staff with research and scholarly duties, and
management of collections and archives database.
Education Department & Outreach
Programs
Assist museum staff with educational programs, gather and prepare
supplies, help with set-up and cleanup, assist staff in
facilitating educational and hands-on experiences.
Special Events & Receptions
Help with set-up and cleanup, welcome guests and promote the
museum, serve food and drink, provide information on museum and
programs. * Some evenings.
Maintenance
Tidying of museum grounds and building exterior.
Internship
Interns at The Old Coast Guard Station get extensive hands-on
experience and an in-depth look at the inner workings of a small
history museum. Internships are individually created to meet the
interest of the student and needs of the museum.
All museum volunteers are required to:
- Speak clearly and comfortably with diverse members of the
general public.
- Develop rapport with visitors and engage in appropriate,
positive, conversation.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance.
- Adhere to museum guidelines and policies.
Volunteer Shifts:
The Museum is open to the public seven days a week, and volunteers
are utilized at all times. Gallery Guides and Store
Ambassadors are divided into shifts.** All the "behind
the scenes" volunteer positions are only available Monday-Friday
during normal business hours; day and time commitment varies.
A few volunteer positions are required to work an occasional
evening.
** Daily -- 10:00 am - 1:30 pm , 1:30 pm - 5:00
pm
Sunday --12 noon - 2:30 pm ,
2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
You can volunteer for a
regularly scheduled time or work as a substitute
volunteer.
